We are keen to make LOTRR as accessible as possible for everyone so have created a detailed document outlining the accessibility of the different activities we are providing. Morning/All Day Activities

Monopoly Run

A Monopoly Run around Leeds City Centre! Race other groups to tick off all the sites or use it as an excuse to get to know the city. Please note: this activity can involve quite a bit of walking!

Challenging Hike (ALL DAY)

This is a 9.5 mile challenging circular-route hike from Ingleborough around Ribblehead that goes past the beautiful viaduct. Please note: we expect this hike to take around 5 hours of walking on some uneven terrain.

Easy Hike (ALL DAY)

Running from Meanwood up though Adel Woods and finishing at Golden Acre Park, the Meanwood Valley Trail is a great way to explore the Meanwood Valley Local Nature Reserve. You will also take a slight detour to The Hollies, which inspired part of The Shire in Lord of the Rings. This hike is on trails and footpaths, and is mostly flat - perfect for beginner hikers! It may be slightly muddy and uneven underfoot. Please note: this hike will be on easy terrain, but you will be walking for long periods of time (to Golden Acre Park and back again which is roughly 14 miles)

Leeds Library Tour

The Leeds Library is the oldest-surviving members' subscription library in the UK, founded in 1768. This is a guided tour of the grade II Georgian, Victorian library.

A cat cafe that also doubles as a cat rescue centre. Enjoy a coffee or two with dozens of beautiful cats!

Leeds Owl Trail

For an alternative way to get to know the city, there's the Leeds Owl Trail! The owl is a well-known symbol of Leeds, featuring on the city's coat of arms, so this trail takes you to many different owls dotted all around. Please note: this is a self-led trail and will involve quite a bit of walking.

Afternoon Activities

Leeds City Museum

Located in the heart of the city, Leeds City Museum is made up of six galleries and home to some incredible collections, including the Leeds Tiger and Nesyamun, the Ancient Egyptian Mummy. A fascinating and calm way to spend your afternoon, the museum includes a wide variety of historical and scientific exhibitions, both about the Leeds area and the wider world.

Tropical World (+ Roundhay Park)

Based in Roundhay Park, Tropical World is Leeds’ own indoor zoo. ​​Take a trek through the rainforest, desert, aquarium and waterfall areas and see some fascinating animals and creatures along the way including butterflies, crocodiles, rare birds, meerkats and many many more! After the zoo, explore Roundhay Park and the 700 acres of green parkland.

Café Crawl

If cafés are your thing, then join our café crawl through Leeds! Involving 5 different cafés, explore Leeds in a relaxed way and get to know other SSAGOers! Please note: there is no cost to this, but you will need to fund your own drinks and cakes if you want them.

Chance and Counters

If you love board games, then this is the activity for you! C+C have 500+ board games to choose from and plenty of different drinks and food too! Please note: there is a 15-20 minute walk from the Union to Chance and Counters.

The Royal Armouries

Explore thousands of incredible objects, from ancient times to the present day, on a visit to the Royal Armouries. From Japanese samurai to iconic movie props, from Henry VIII’s armour to an Indian war elephant, the Royal Armouries is a fascinating museum with loads to do. Please note: you will be walking to the Armouries at 12pm and eat lunch outside the Armouries. This activity involves around a 25 minute walk to the museum and back again

Thackray Medical Museum

The Thackray Museum is one of the UK's leading medical museums. A recently redeveloped museum, this is the place to explore, discover and marvel at the exciting story of modern medicine. Find the sights, sounds and smells of Victorian Leeds, and wonder at the medical treatments and practices that were applied in the past.

Flight Club

Enjoy an exciting afternoon of social darts at Flight Club! This activity will involve an hour and a half session of darts, involving interactive games and activities. There are also drinks and food available to purchase during the session. Please note: the walk from the Union to Flight Club will take roughly 15 minutes.

Pixel Bar

Have a gaming filled afternoon at the best video game bar in Leeds! Pixel Bar offers a range of games and consoles to play on for the two hour session. There is a selection of exciting themed cocktails and mocktails to purchase while you game - we recommend you try some! Please note: the walk from the Union to Pixel Bar will take around 12 minutes.

Kirkstall Brewery Tour

Enjoy a tour around Leeds’ very own Kirkstall Brewery! Learn about the brewing process and the types of beers they produce, and taste three of their seasonal beers. The session lasts an hour and a half, with time to enjoy the rest of the bar area too! Please note: you will need formal ID (e.g. driving license, passport etc.) and the walk from the Union to the brewery will take around 20 minutes.

Spoons Crawl

It’s back! Leeds is home to numerous Spoons, five of which are in our city centre! Starting at Stick or Twist, follow the crawl through the city centre and finish at the Hedley Verity - our very own disco spoons! There’s no pressure to drink alcohol, but if you do want to buy a drink at each pub, we recommend you check out the Wetherspoons app for the prices and menu. Please note: there will be walking invovled to get to each pub.

Otley Run

The Otley Run is Leeds’ famous pub crawl, starting in Headingley and ending near the Uni. It’s an excellent excuse to dress up as a group, and of course the theme is Lord of the Rings! Get as creative as you can! Please note: due to time constraints of pub opening times and coach departure times this will be a half Otley Run, starting at Hyde Park Pub. Why not come back to Leeds in the future and do the whole thing?
